Darsham Old Hall sits amidst almost 60 acres of private gardens, pastures, hedgerows and woodland. There are two ponds: one near the house with a formal terrace, where drinks can be taken: the other, Diggits sits at the top of the farm and is a lovely quiet spot that affords great views across the grounds.
Private walks and gallops criss-cross the farm and guests are welcome to use these (up to four livery stables can be arranged at the Hall with prior notice). The Walks are clearly signed and have regular seats and vantage points from where you can sit and read a book or just and watch the world go by.
The pasture is home to the 140 strong Melford Green prize winning pedigree alpaca herd. It is a working alpaca stud farm, that has been carefully designed to offer guests the opportunity to wander and“alpaca watch”.
The Melford Green herd, as the name suggests, is run in an eco-friendly manner. This means that the alpacas share this tranquil environment with a host of wildlife and birds, including our rather elusive Peacock – “Captain”. We try to encourage as many species onto the farm as possible – regular sightings include Kingfishers, Barn Owls, Little Owls, Buzzards, Heron and Green Woodpeckers to name but a few.
